Logging in

To log in to Embotics® vCommander®:

1.In a browser, enter the following URL to access the server where vCommander is installed:

https://<host_or_ip_address>

where:

<host_or_ip_address> is the host name or the IP address.

3.Enter your username and password, and the domain name if required.

4.Click Log in.

NotePencil-smallvCommander and the Service Portal do not support multiple connections in the same browser. For example, you can connect to vCommander in both Firefox and Chrome at the same time, but you cannot connect to vCommander in two instances of Firefox at the same time.

Logging out

If you have the dashboard open and you close the window for the session without logging out, you (or anyone else) can reopen the console session within 15 minutes by clicking on any number displayed on the dashboard without having to enter a username and password.

Best Practice: Always log out of vCommander, even if you keep the dashboard open. If you have logged out of the console session and you click on a number in the dashboard, you are prompted for your username and password again.

To log out of vCommander:

1.Click Logout on the menu toolbar on any console display, as shown in the following figure.

2.In the Confirm Log Out dialog, click OK.

Changing your personal account information

Access through:

Configuration menu > Preferences > Account Details pane

Available to:

All Roles

You can change your personal account details and password for a local account only. To change your account details if you are a directory services user, see your system administrator.

NotePencil-smallTo synchronize your details with any changes that may have occurred on your directory service account since you logged in, click Sync with Directory. For information on your directory service account, contact your system administrator.

To change any of your contact information for a local user account:

1.Enter the details you want to change into any of the fields.

2.To revert to the original information in the field before you save it, click Revert.

3.Click OK to save the changes.

4.On the Preferences Updated dialog box, click OK.

Changing your personal password

Access through:

Configuration menu > Preferences > Change Password pane

Available to:

All roles

You can change your password only if you are a local user. To change your account details if you are a directory services user, see your system administrator.

NotePencil-smallPasswords are case-sensitive.

1.Enter your current password into the Type your current password field.

2.Enter your new password into the Type a new password field.

3.To confirm your new password, enter it again into the Type the new password again to confirm field.

4.Click Change Password.

5.In the Preferences Updated dialog, click OK.

Viewing your access rights

Access through:

Configuration menu > Preferences

Available to:

All Roles

Your view of the virtual infrastructure and what tasks you can perform, as well as any vCommander messages such as events, alerts and tasks, are dictated by access rights assigned to your account.

To view your access rights, go to Configuration > Preferences.

Your current access rights are displayed in the Access Rights pane.

The following example shows that a user who has a vCommander role of Enterprise Admin has these access rights on the virtual infrastructure:

on the managed system pv test, Auditor

on the managed system Embotics Public Cloud, Administrator

on the managed system pvscvmm2, Approver

Access Rights
