Six levels of storage tier costs are available to be applied to each datastore or datastore cluster managed by vCommander. By default, Storage Tier 1 is applied to all datastores and datastore clusters.
When you set the storage tier for a datastore, the tier is also assigned to the datastore's actual location on disk (which is displayed as the Location property for a datastore). You cannot assign a storage tier to a datastore that is part of a datastore cluster; you must assign the storage tier at the datastore cluster level. When you change a datastore's storage tier, the costs of VMs on that datastore are automatically recalculated.
When you set the storage tier for a datastore cluster, all datastores in that cluster are assigned the same storage tier. When you move a datastore into a datastore cluster, the datastore is automatically assigned the storage tier of the cluster. When you move a datastore out of a datastore cluster, the datastore retains the storage tier of the parent cluster.
To assign a storage tier to a datastore or datastore cluster:
1.Select the datastore in the Datastore view (from the tree or the Datastores tab), or in the Operational or VMs and Templates view (from the Datastores tab).
Or, select a datastore cluster in the Datastore view (from the tree or from the Datastore Clusters tab).
2.Right-click and choose Set Storage Tier.
3.In the Set Storage Tier dialog, select the appropriate storage tier, and click OK.
