The Storage Summary Report provides information about the amount of storage used by both in-inventory and out-of-inventory VMs including templates. This report also displays the yearly costs associated with the use of storage.
|Before you generate a Storage Summary Report, be sure to run a scan on all your datastores (see Scanning vCenter Datastores). If a datastore has not been scanned, then the Storage Summary Report cannot display up-to-date information.|
The costs displayed are based upon the amounts entered in the Resources and Support panes of the Costs menu item under the Configuration menu. (Storage costs for a VM are calculated by vCommander based on whether or not the VM is thin-provisioned or thick-provisioned.)
The summary information section of the Storage Summary Report displays information for in-inventory and out-of-inventory VMs, including:
•the number of VMs and templates
•total size of VMs
•the total annual cost of storage per VM
•the total cost of software and support for all VMs (the total cost of software and support for all VMs will always be zero for out-of-inventory VMs)
The summary information section also displays the top five VMs by size, showing their annual storage cost and what datastore they are located on.
The top five VMs are those found in inventory only.
The VM Details section (not shown in the example below) displays all VMs by host, datastore name, primary owners, hard drive consumption in GB, and the annual storage cost associated with each VM.
See Running and Scheduling Reports for printing details.
The following example shows part of a Storage Summary report. The first pie chart displays the aggregate of all datastore usage; other pie charts that appear reflect the usage of the individual datastore devices. A chart for each datastore device is displayed.
