Managing Your Account

Logging in

To log in to Commander:

  1. In a browser, enter the following URL to access the server where Commander is installed:

    https://<host_or_ip_address>

    where:

    <host_or_ip_address> is the host name or the IP address.

  2. Enter your username and password, and the domain name if required.
  3. Click Log in.

Notes

  • Commander and the Service Portal don't support multiple connections in the same browser. For example, you can connect to Commander in both Firefox and Chrome at the same time, but you can't connect to Commander in two instances of Firefox at the same time.
  • If you're logged out of Commander because your session timed out, after you log in again, you're returned to the page you were previously viewing.

Logging out

To log out of Commander:

  1. Click Logout on the menu toolbar , as shown in the following figure.

  2. In the Confirm Logout dialog, click OK.

Changing your personal account information

Access through:

Configuration menu > Preferences > Account Details pane

Available to:

All Roles

You can change your personal account details and password for a local account only. To change your account details if you're a directory services user, see your system administrator.

Your view of the virtual infrastructure and what tasks you can perform, as well as any Commander messages such as events, alerts and tasks, are dictated by your access rights. To change your permissions, contact your administrator.

To change any of your contact information for a local user account:

  1. Enter the details you want to change into any of the fields.
  2. To revert to the original information in the field before you save it, click Revert.
  3. Click OK to save the changes.
  4. On the Preferences Updated dialog box, click OK.

Changing your password

Access through:

Configuration menu > Preferences > Change Password pane

All roles

You can change your password only if you're a local user. To change your account details if you're a directory services user, see your system administrator.

Passwords are case-sensitive.

  1. Enter your current password into the Type your current password field.
  2. Enter your new password into the Type a new password field.
  3. To confirm your new password, enter it again into the Type the new password again to confirm field.
  4. Click Change Password.
  5. In the Preferences Updated dialog, click OK.

Viewing your access rights

Access through:

Your view of the virtual infrastructure and what tasks you can perform, as well as any Commander messages such as events, alerts and tasks, are dictated by access rights assigned to your account.

  • To view your access rights, go to Configuration > Preferences.

    Your current access rights are displayed in the Access Rights pane.

The following example shows that a user who has a Commander role of Enterprise Admin has these access rights on the virtual infrastructure:

  • on the managed system pv test, Auditor
  • on the managed system Embotics Public Cloud, Administrator
  • on the managed system pvscvmm2, Approver
