Navigating the vCommander UI

The panes that appear when you log in to the console depend upon what view you're working in, the item you have selected in the tree, and the tab you have selected. An active tab is always white; the other tabs available to you're dark gray.

Current Tasks and Alerts are always available at the bottom of the window. By default, the Tasks, Workflows and Alerts pane is minimized, but you can expand it as shown in the following image. vCommander preserves the state of this pane between sessions.

On the Operational pane on the Summary tab for the Operational view and the Deployed view, pictograms display at-a-glance information about the VM or template.

The following figure explains the information that each cell in the pictogram displays and gives an example of a template and a VM.

Updating the display

To update information that has made changes to the information displayed in vCommander due to system actions or the actions of another user, click the Refresh button. Refresh appears on any panel that contains a table.

Applying commands to more than one element

To apply a command to a range of VMs, virtual services or hosts:

  • In the Operational or Deployed view, select the relevant tab. In the table, Ctrl-click or Shift-click to select multiple rows, right-click, and choose a command.

To select items over more than one page, select the first item in the range, click the single arrow or the double arrow, and Shift-click the last item. You can now go back to any page and deselect individual items for which you don't want the command or action to apply by Ctrl-clicking the item.

Your view of the virtual infrastructure and what tasks you can perform, as well as any vCommander messages such as events, alerts and tasks, are dictated by access rights assigned to your account.
